Orange County metal band Avenged Sevenfold recently changed their website to a TV/radio combo (Shown above), which shows a radio dial that displays each year the band has existed since their formation in 1999. As you tune to each station, the radio plays a song from that era. For example, tuning to 03 will start playing “Remenissions” from their album Waking The Fallen (Released in 2003), or tuning to 07 to hear “Scream” from their 2007 self-titled release.
When the station tunes to 13, a heavy guitar riff begins playing as an interview with lead singer M Shadows can be heard through static, traffic sounds and static.
“You know, sometimes it takes a while to get inspired, and I felt like we went through a lot with Nightmare. So proud of that record, but at some point you wake up and say ‘I think I can do better than that,’…. or at least add on to what we’ve already built. One day you wake up and decide that’s what you want to do.”
Shadows continued on about the new album. “I know we promised the fans that we’d be back in the studio in January, but the reality is we had a bunch of good songs and we just wanted to beat those out, and not necessarily beat them out but make sure every song is as good as the next.”
“I told (Synyster) Gates that when we’re done with this album I want to be completely drained of all creativity and feel like I have nothing left. By the end of the writing process I definitely felt that way, I know he did, the guys did. So once we got to that point we knew we had the best material that we were going to get. It’s all about laying it down, so right now that’s what we’re doing.”
The forthcoming album will be Avenged Sevenfold’s sixth studio album and the first since 2010′s Nightmare, as well as the first with drummer Arin Ilejay, who joined Avenged in 2011 after leaving his band Confide. Ilejay replaced Mike Portnoy, who had been filling in on drums after the untimely death of James “The Rev” Sullivan in late 2009.
